Next week the San Luis Obispo Planning Commission is deciding on a rail spur expansion project that could mean mile-long oil trains through our area on a near daily basis. The cities of Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, and Goleta have all voiced their opposition as the risk is just too great. Oil trains emit toxic air pollution and derail too frequently with disastrous consequences.

This is not about local oil or gas, but toxic Canadian crude that would put the more than 125,000 residents of Santa Barbara County who live in the “blast zone” at risk. There will be a massive protest in San Luis Obispo on February 4. Get on a bus from Santa Barbara by signing up here brownpapertickets.com/event/2491094.
