Motorcyclist Killed in Orcutt Crash

[Original Story]: A 22-year-old Santa Maria motorcyclist died Sunday night after he was thrown from his Honda 929R in a collision with a Nissan Pathfinder. Around 8:20 p.m. that night, 31-year-old Garrett Alford, of Orcutt, was turning left at the intersection of Santa Maria Way and South Bradley Way — near the entrance to the Quail Meadows condominiums — when he allegedly turned in front of the motorcyclist, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The motorcyclist, whose name hasn’t yet been released pending notification of his family, “was declared dead on arrival,” said Santa Barbara County Fire spokesperson Capt.. Dave Zaniboni. Alford, who was uninjured, was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of driving drunk with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or higher causing injury or death. His bail is set at $100,000.
