The bridge that connects Solvang with Nojoqui Park — the Alisal Bridge — will be undergoing seismic retrofit beginning Monday. Partial lane closures will result from the work to reinforce the bridge abutments, hinge cable restrainer replacement, and cast in drilled holes pile placement taking place through February 2017. The bridge crosses over the Santa Ynez River along Alisal Road and also connects the Alisal Ranch’s two golf courses.

The City of Solvang is funding about $22,000 of the $1.8 million cost to retrofit the roughly 850-foot bridge, with the remainder coming chiefly from the federal Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program and also a CalTrans grant. Cushman Contracting is undertaking the retrofit work, and Bengal Engineering has performed the geotechnical engineering and bridge design.
