A savory competition that’s raising funds for the police Youth Explorer Program takes place this Sunday, October 2, not today as printed in The Santa Barbara Independent.

Ten restaurants and Moose Lodge #605 will be stirring up the menudo on Sunday while competing for a first place trophy at Franklin Elementary School, 1111 East Mason Street, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Adults will be helping to fund the Santa Barbara Police Department’s Youth Police Explorer Program with the $10 entry fee, $5 for children ages 4-12.

The Explorer program is an internship for young people ages 14-21 looking for an experience of what it’s like to be in law enforcement before deciding on a career. The program provides training in leadership, community relations, and communications. It recruits once or twice a year, and applications can be picked up at the Police Activities League on 1235 Chapala Street from 3-6:30 p.m.
