If Sheriff Bill Brown is concerned about cannabis’ effect on driving fatalities, he should support Prop. 64. The facts demonstrate that driving fatalities took a 9 percent drop in legal medical cannabis states.

For example, comparing fatalities from 2008-2012 in California and Texas, we find that traffic fatalities dropped by 20 percent in California where cannabis is legal medicinally and had only a one percent drop in Texas where cannabis is illegal. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) says there is no increased risk from using cannabis. If cannabis does affect driving, they say that it causes drivers to drive slower and more careful.

So now that Sherriff Brown has the facts, I guess we can assume that he’ll change his position on Prop. 64.
