Santa's California Highway Patrol elves view their haul happily and hope to bring in more.

Gathering toys for children who might not otherwise have them is an annual pre-holiday tradition among the California Highway Patrol officers who drive Santa Barbara County’s roads. The squads compete to bring in children’s favorites, and the public is invited to participate. New, unwrapped toys can be taken to the CHP office at 6465 Calle Real in Goleta, the Walgreens at 5900 Calle Real, or the CalTrans offices at 3999 State Street. “We hope to help as many families as possible,” said Public Information Officer Jonathan Gutierrez, “We take pride in serving the Santa Barbara community, not only by protecting the roadways, but helping those in need.” The pseudo-Santa enterprise runs through December 20.

[UPDATE] The Golden 1 Credit Union at 5676 Calle Real has been added to the drop-off locations for CHiPs for Kids toys.
