New Executive Order Provides Boost to In-Home Supportive Services
Gov. Newsom signs Order Meant to Extend Help to Those who Need Support at Home, Such as Elderly or Disabled.
On Tuesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he had signed a new executive order meant to allow the extension of in-home supportive services (IHSS) during the COVID-19 outbreak. The order gives a 60-day waiver to IHSS workers whose work may have been affected by the mandates of social distancing, allowing them to continue their work and provide assistance to those incapable of caring for themselves. IHSS workers assist those over 65, those with disabilities or blindness, and children with disabilities. Newsom pointed to the needs of many of the most vulnerable as the impetus for signing the order.
