Unpacking ‘Succession’ Obsessions and White Christmases
A TALE OF TWO KITCHENS
I love a good before-and-after tale, and kitchens are one of my favorite rooms to dream about. This story from the Emily Henderson blog gives us a drool-worthy kitchen; a fun, friend-filled backstory; a pandemic project twist; and a bunch of cool pics that even feature a furry pup. It also points out a new trend: bronze in the kitchen as an alternative to both chrome and black, plus some tips on mixing metals that work in any room in the house. Take a gander to see whether this kitchen rehab fits your style profile or not.
KETCHUP & MUSTARD
Over on HGTV, Jonathan and Drew Scott — better known as the Property Brothers — help homeowners dress up their houses to get top dollar before they sell, dispensing plenty of advice along the way. This episode highlights the two worst wall colors for resale: red and yellow. A pale yellow living room prompts Jonathan to tell the owner that “yellow walls don’t really sell,” and he encourages her to “lose the mellow yellow.” The dark red dining room receives an even stronger reaction, as she is admonished to “lose the angry ’90s red wall.” Whether or not you agree with their suggestions, you’ve got to admit that they’re delivered with flair.

DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS?
Do you prefer the clean aesthetic of an all-white decor scheme? This recent article offers some tips on how to successfully tackle the well-established white-on-white trend, whether you want to redo your whole house or you just like to admire pretty pictures. Be warned, however, that the article is brought to us by the folks from Ruggable, so click at your own risk, knowing full well that they’re going to try to sell you a rug, most likely a white one, for every room in the house.
SUCCESSION OBSESSION
One of my recent viewing obsessions has been the HBO show Succession, wherein the members of the über-powerful Roy family continually jockey for position within their company and each other’s eyes. Their infighting fuels the drama and the comedy on each episode, which are set against stunning backdrops in New York; Croatia; Washington, D.C.; New Mexico; and England, plus this sprawling summer home in the Hamptons. Boasting a quarter mile of ocean frontage, the 42-acre estate was purchased in 2002 for under $22 million, carefully renovated, and just sold for $105 million, making it the second-largest sale in Long Island. While Siobhan, Kendall, Roman, and Connor continue to fight for their father’s approval and each other’s respect, their luxury summer home will drift quietly into the history books in one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country.
