Bishop Diego Still Alive in High School Football Playoffs

Friday night lights have flickered out for all but one South Coast high school football team: the Bishop Diego High Cardinals. They successfully launched their quest for the CIF Mid-Valley Division championship by blanking Mary Star of the Sea 36-0 in their playoff opener last Friday night at La Playa Stadium. Bishop will hit the road to face Temple City in the quarterfinals this Friday night, November 23.

Former UCSB Runners Vying for Seemingly Impossible Olympic Bid

The magic number for Aaron Sharp and J.T. Service was 2:22:00-the time that would put them on the road to the Olympics. Sharp achieved it last December, finishing 10th at the California International Marathon in Sacramento in 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 24 seconds. Service broke the barrier in June, clocking 2:21:29 to place eighth at the Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota.

Day-Tripping in Northern California

A stormy winter day on the Mendocino County coast can easily hint of the year-round desolation that existed in this part of the state before the arrival of expensive homes, wineries, parades of RVs, elegant art galleries, and bed-and-breakfast romance. First of all, it was Navy Day and the citizens were honoring the officers and crew of the battleship USS Colorado, which was anchored just offshore. The second reason was that two of the biggest baseball stars in the country, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, were in town on a barnstorming tour.

Inside Last Weekend’s Tsunami Extreme Fight Productions’ Martial Arts Showdown

Note to self: Never mess with any Japanese-style fighters. After hearing knees pop, seeing tongues sliced in half, watching concrete blocks smashed on the groin of a man lying on a bed of nails, and witnessing 450-pound men pick up other men of similar stature by their belts and toss them out of the ring, I don’t think I’ll need a reminder anytime soon.

Rams Come to L.A. to Celebrate 70th Anniversary

Professional football has a new look in Los Angeles-it is the game of soccer, known as football throughout the world outside the U.S., and its human face is that of David Beckham, the English star whose impending debut with the L.A. Galaxy has prompted much hyperventilating by the media multitudes.
