The Santa Barbara Jazz Society is excited to bring the Santa Barbara City College’s Monday Madness Jazz Orchestra to SOhO on Sunday, September 15 from 1 to 4pm. The 19 piece band is made up of some of the best musicians and jazz educators in the city and upholds the big band jazz tradition by the greats such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Dizzy Gillespie and also modern orchestra leaders like Alan Baylock, Bob Mintzer, and Gordon Goodwin.

SBCC’S Monday Madness band was created by Dr. Charles Wood in the fall of 1988. Wood wanted a band that would perform at such high caliber that it would attract all the area’s best musicians; while at the same time exciting the area’s youth, and creating a powerhouse ensemble for SBCC.

Monday Madness is currently directed by former member, Andrew Martinez who filled the sax tenor chair for many years. “It’s an honor to work with these amazing musicians. Santa Barbara is a small town compared to Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City, but we have some big city talent in this band!”

You can renew your SBJS membership at the door for 2019 on the day of the concert or download the application on our website. Admission to the event is $15 for members, $25 for non-members, $5 for full-time students, and $7 for local jazz musicians with membership. Tickets are available ONLY at the door and doors open at 12:30pm. Seating is limited and members and are admitted first, so plan to arrive early.
