Adam Lundquist and those about to be joked enjoy free FRS sports drinks.

Starting at seven this morning, the morning show hosts at KJEE 92.9 FM-Spencer Fischer, Adam Lundquist, and Jenny Shlax-broke the news that Apple Computer founder Steve Wozniak would be giving out free iPhones in front of the Arlington Theater. Wozniak, known by some as the Wizard of Woz, developed the first Apple computer in 1976 with Steve Jobs, is also credited with being the inventor of the first universal TV remote, and will be speaking about his experiences at the Arlington tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m., as part of UCSB’s Arts & Lectures series.

Bearing all of this in mind, it stands to reason that there might be free iPhones on offer by the man himself at the Arlington, right? Wrong:“April Fool’s Day!” say the morning show jokesters. The prank was, as is usual, led by the show’s lead out-on-the-town prankster, Adam Lundquist. The announcement, made at 7:00 a.m., had already attracted a group of people by 7:10, when Adam arrived. “There were about 30 people there, and we got tons of calls,” said Adam, noting that FRS even came by to hand out free drinks. “We stood there for about two hours, and then I had to crush everyone’s dreams.”

Apparently, two people called in sick at work in order to wait around for the fictitious phones. “They weren’t angry,” he said, “but they had a look of disappointment-like they were just told that their dog had to go to sleep for a long time. If I were going to blame anyone, though, I would blame Steve Wozniak, ’cause it’s probably his fault.”
