What: Santa Barbara’s first Thai restaurant serves signature dishes to an audience of wide tastes and dietary preferences.

The Dish: Quality, authenticity, and a seemingly endless array of options have bumped Your Place into The Independent Readers’ Poll’s Best Thai Restaurant slot for 25 uninterrupted years. The casual Milpas Street eatery has been serving lunch and dinner since opening the first Thai restaurant in town in 1983. The lived-in feel of its atmosphere has an Asian flare with its exotic touches and colorfully decorative fanned umbrellas over the light fixtures. Weekday lunch specials are a steal and include a choice of one out of about 25 entree specials, soup of the day, green salad, egg roll, fried wonton, and steamed rice ($7.25-$7.50). The regular menu has plenty of options under headings that include spicy soups served in bowls or larger hot pots, salads, rice, noodles, curries, seafood, tofu, beef, pork, and poultry specialties. Sweet basil, spicy chili (order food to your spiciness preference), ginger, and curry seasoning find their way into many of the dishes in a traditional flavorful Thai way. A popular choice for takeout as well, since Your Place can serve up what your kitchen may not be able to throw together.
