TOP SPORTING EVENTS: FEBRUARY 19-28
The good news for Dos Pueblos High is that the Chargers will play a home game tonight (Friday, Feb. 19) in the second round of the CIF 2A boys basketball playoffs. The bad news is that they will be playing top-seeded Eisenhower.
Dos Pueblos, the third-place team out of the Channel League, scored a 55-54 victory at Garden Grove two nights ago. Eisenhower, the Citrus League champ, opened the playoffs by thrashing Claremont 72-43 and boasts a 24-5 record. DP is 14-11.
Channel League champ San Marcos (20-4) travels to Corona del Mar in a Division 3A matchup. The Royals were impressive in the first round, beating Mountain View 53-32. The winners of tonight’s games advance to the quarterfinals Tuesday.
Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara High are off to Orange County for today’s girls water polo quarterfinals. All four local girls basketball teams that won their playoff openers will be hitting the road Saturday for the second round.
Dos Pueblos also will host a second-round boys soccer playoff game Tuesday against Valley View. Santa Barbara, which pummeled Littlerock 9-0 in the first round, will travel to Chino Hills.
