Week in Sports Update

TOP SPORTING EVENTS: JANUARY 29-FEBRUARY 7

Santa Barbara High ended its frustration against Dos Pueblos with two early goals and vanquished the Chargers 2-1 in a Channel League boys soccer match Thursday at Peabody Stadium. It was the 20th victory of the season for the undefeated Dons. The only blemish on their record is an earlier 0-0 tie against DP. The Dons will host San Marcos at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 30) in the makeup of a postponed match.

In college sports, UCSB’s men successfully completed a 3-0 homestand by blowing out Cal Poly 80-57. Now the Gauchos hit the road for three straight games, beginning Saturday night at Cal State Northridge. Meanwhile, the Gaucho women will host the Matadors at 2 p.m. Saturday. A 67-62 defeat at Cal Poly dropped UCSB to seventh place in the Big West women’s standings.

UCSB scored an upset on the road in men’s volleyball, topping No. 2-ranked Stanford in four games (30-28, 31-29, 28-30 and 31-29). The Gauchos’ next home match will be Wednesday against Pepperdine at Robertson Gym.
