TOP SPORTING EVENTS: AUGUST 30-SEPTEMBER 5

The summer’s final Nite Moves swimming and running event takes place Wednesday, August 31, at Leadbetter Beach. The Reef & Run Series at East Beach will continue for the next three Tuesdays.

Another summer classic, the high-goal polo season at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, comes to a climax Sunday with the championship match of the Bombardier Pacific Coast Open. The first semifinal on Thursday matches last year’s finalists, defending champion Lucchese and ERG. Audi meets Piaget in the other semi.

The hardiest of runners will tackle the Pier to Peak Half Marathon on Sunday morning.

The high school fall season starts this week, with three football teams – Santa Barbara, San Marcos and Dos Pueblos – all playing on the road Friday night. Santa Barbara hosts a pair of girls volleyball matches.

SBCC’s football team travels to Santa Maria for its season opener against Hancock College on Saturday. Westmont College hosts a soccer tournament Saturday and Monday, while UCSB’s nationally ranked men head east to face Duke and North Carolina State.
