Produced by Janet Allenspach, a Los Osos-based artist and longtime volunteer at Live Oak, the 2013 Live Oak emblem (pictured right) depicts a style reminiscent of pointillism, with a swirling pattern of distinct, multicolored dots that together form an image of a live oak tree set against the Milky Way.

“This painting of a live oak spreading its branches to protect and comfort us portrays community spirit,” Allenspach says, “and the roots show the grounding that comes from being surrounded by like-minded souls enjoying nature, music and art.”

A graduate of Photography at Sonoma State University, where she also studied Painting and Printmaking, Allenspach (pictured left) is known for incorporating Aboriginal symbolism in her imagery and often paints endangered species to educate the public on what they can do to help.

Live Oak Marketing Coordinator Sarah Taylor Maggelet said that Allenspach’s painting was selected for this year’s silver jubilee event for more than its visual appeal.

“Live Oak Music Festival has striven for the last 25 years to bring families, friends and communities together on a very real level through music and togetherness in nature,” says Maggelet. “The way the separate points in this painting combine to create a beautiful effect, that is greater than the sum of its parts, is a perfect symbol of our festival.”

Live Oak Music Festival is a three-day concert and camping festival held in the Live Oak Campground in the Santa Ynez Valley near Santa Barbara each Father’s Day weekend (Friday, June 14 through Sunday June 16, 2013). Guests, dubbed “Oakies,” enjoy a wide range of musical genres like folk-rock, blues, and bluegrass from some of the most talented musicians in the world, with recent headliners including Indigo Girls, Mavis Staples and Toots and the Maytals. A family-friendly event, the festival also hosts a variety of activities for children. All festival proceeds benefit KCBX Public Radio, which serves San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Southern Monterey Counties.
