Sports Highlights: Jan. 9-15

UCSB hosts Long Beach State in a men’s volleyball match tonight (Wed., Jan. 9) at Robertson Gym. Both teams are 2-1 on the season and ranked nationally – Long Beach No. 6 and UCSB No. 9. The Gauchos are coming off a streak of six consecutive set wins following sweeps of Lewis and Loyola-Chicago in their tournament last week.

In women’s basketball at the Thunderdome Thursday night, UCSB faces Pacific, which boasts the best overall record (11-2) in the Big West. The Tigers are 1-0 in the conference, while the Gauchos are 5-9 and 1-1.

Westmont College will memorialize a late professor and husband of women’s basketball coach Kirsten Moore on Saturday with the Alex Moore Classic, a basketball game between the Warrior women and San Diego Christian. Proceeds from the 5:30 p.m. game will benefit Coach Moore and her six-month-old daughter Alexis, as well the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
