As the deadline for pulling candidacy paperwork closed on August 17, all three candidates were assured a Board of Education position with the Santa Barbara Unified School District. Starting in December, the new board members will be Laura Capps, Wendy Sims-Moten, and Jackie Reid. Stepping down are Ed Heron, Pedro Paz, and Gayle Eidelson. A fourth seat on the five-member board will open up if Monique Limon wins her bid for State Assembly; Limon is widely considered a shoe-in to replace outgoing Assemblymember Das Williams. Her replacement will be appointed by the new board after the first of the year. The election is November 8.
