Puppy Torturer Deported to China

After serving less than a year in County Jail and just over two months in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, puppy torturer and former SBCC student Duanying Chen was deported March 8 to his home country of China. “Mr. Chen was ordered removed by an immigration judge February 2,” an ICE spokesperson told The Santa Barbara Independent via email on Monday.

In July 2015, Chen was sentenced to a year in jail and five years probation for fatally torturing Davey, his 6-month-old Miniature Pinscher puppy, and choking his girlfriend. Six months later, he was released from jail and taken into ICE custody on a detainer in place upon his “time-served release date,” Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kelly Hoover previously told The Independent.

Before Chen’s release from jail on “good time” credit, the nonprofit Davey’s Voice delivered a petition to the Sheriff’s Office bearing over 11,849 signatures and protesting his proposed early release. The petition also demanded Chen have his student visa revoked and be deported upon his release from jail.

On Thursday, Davey’s Voice posted a celebratory message on its Facebook page, which read, “The long-awaited day has arrived. Duanying Chen, the monster who tortured and killed Puppy Davey, has finally been deported! … We will continue to seek justice for animals who are tortured.”
