Fred Bell

Fred the man, the myth, the legend. He was one of the most Loyal and honorable men I’ve ever met. In January of 1996 I just moved to town and was looking for the Bank of America I see this man in cowboy boots, standing at 5 feet 5 inches with the hand grip of a pair of pliers, motor bike cop sun glasses smoking outside Johns liquor store. he tells me where it is. I laughed to myself and went my way. when I started bar tending he came into see me from then on I made a friend.

His stories about his life in Texas, his ex wives and his time in the navy would keep you entertained all day. a very unselfish man would buy every one drinks and keep everyone laughing. His singing of Galway bay, Molly Malone and Danny Boy caught everyone’s attention. He would say “I might not be much of a singer but I know all the words”. A very proud man of his native Texas and firm in his beliefs.

He loved his Dewer’s and soda and shots of Jameson. A great man with the ladies he would stop anyone in their tracks walking down State street on Saturday afternoons. He was one of those characters that will be sadly missed.

Fred Bell left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He faced his difficulties with courage and good humor. Fred loved his Irish heritage and loved singing the folk songs he learned from his mother. We should all aspire to have the strength of character that Fred displayed every day of his life. Don’t worry Fred, we’ll always ” hold the phone” for you. – Josh Klein
