Barbara Louise Barbere, age 70, passed away Tuesday, March 16, at her home in Santa Barbara after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving husband Walter, her three children and many other family members.

Barbara was born in Santa Barbara and married Walter S. Barbere, in 1961.

Together they devoted their lives to raising their children and serving the Lord. They were jail chaplains for over thirty years and were pastors of Joy Christian Fellowship. Barbara was an eighth-generation Santa Barbaran and a member of the Coastal Band of the Chumash Nation.

Before marrying, Barbara graduated from Santa Barbara High School and went on to study nursing and attend Santa Barbara Business College. As a parent, she was a volunteer yard duty monitor at Franklin Elementary School.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, pastor, counselor and friend and will be warmly remembered for her loving spirit, her gentle smile and her compassionate wisdom.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Walter, her children, Walter S. Barbere Jr.(Delores), Tracy Meza, William Barbere (Laurie) and grandchildren Renessa, Anthony, Mark, Vincent, Renee, Zachariah, Caleb, Nico, Tobias, Kathryn and Michael. Barbara is an inspiration and touched the lives of all who knew her. Her courage and resilience provided her the strength to battle the many illnesses she endured. Her faith in God was unshaken and stood in true testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. Although her loved ones feel the loss of such a wonderful beauty, we celebrate her death as a communion with the Lord, for whom she lived her life.
