Known to his many friends by numerous nicknames: Hal, HE, Jonesie, Bud and Buster, Harold passed away early Tuesday morning at home from complications from congestive heart failure with his sense of humor intact.

Harold was born in Westbrook, ME and in his early years crossed both the United States and the Atlantic Ocean to England to visit family numerous times before the Jones Family settled in Santa Barbara in the 1930’s. Harold attended local schools where he met many life long friends, some even from Peabody Elementary. While student body President at La Cumbre Jr. High, he met his wife of nearly 60 years, Gerry. WWII called Harold into the Marines in his last year at SBHS. He completed his tour as a member of The First Amphibious Battalion. He was proud to have served his country and looked forward to his yearly reunions with his fellow veterans.

After the war Harold took his first job with DF Joehnck who also sponsored a local baseball team, The Kandy Kids, for whom he played for many years. Participating in and watching sports were always an important part of Harold’s life. With a great extended family of friends he enjoyed volleyball, golf, cards, horse racing and especially the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Harold spent more than 30 years in the restaurant industry, mostly working for Jordano’s. He served as President of the 20-30 Club, Suburban Kiwanis and the Tip Club. He loved music from the 1940’s, especially Glenn Miller, Patriotic songs, classical music, musicals and old movies. Yearly travel was a big part of the Jones’ life; many years of island resorts followed by wonderful cruises all over the world.

Harold is survived by his wife, Gerry, and daughter, Marcey. The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to Harold’s diligent and compassionate team of doctors, Dr. Robert Byers and Dr. Harris Gelberg, as well as, Dr. John Dexter at the Wound Center and the care team from Hospice – VNA.

A private memorial was held for the family with Pastors from the First Presbyterian Church, where Harold was a long time member and usher.

Friends are invited to an Open House Saturday July 16th from 3pm-6pm at the family home to celebrate Harold’s wonderful life. Semper Fi.
