Hans Boock Jensen our beloved husband, father and grandfather left this earthly world January 4, 2012. He is survived by his wife Paulette, his children Hans Brett Jensen (Angela), Tamara Lynn Jensen, Michael Wayne Gann (Cassie), his grandchildren Alexandra, Ryan, Riley, Hannah, Josh and brothers Dennes (Christy) and Carl (Anne). His parents Martha Helen and Hans Waldemar Jensen and sister, Joan Lenae Jensen preceded him in death.

Hans was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 12, 1941. His parents moved to Denmark from Chicago in 1935 with their 2 little children. Soon after WW II, his Mother brought him and his baby brother back to the States in one of the first passenger ships that left Denmark. Hans recalled sharing a cabin with other passengers and enjoyed exploring the ship. His father stayed in Denmark with the two oldest children. Their family was reunited in Idaho Falls two years later.

When Hans was 12 years old they moved to Redondo Beach where he graduated from Redondo Beach High School in 1960 and El Camino College in 1962. He ran track, played water polo, and was a lifeguard in Malibu and Redondo Beach. He transferred to Ohio State University where he met and married his first wife, Lynda. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1967 with a degree in pharmacy. He then returned to Torrance, Ca. for a year of internship and moved to Santa Barbara a year later. He was a pharmacist for many years in Santa Barbara until he decided to change his profession.

In 1983 he graduated from California College of Podiatric Medicine. Shortly after graduation and prior to his residency at Tucson’s Veterans Hospital, he married Paulette Gann. His podiatry practice was in Carpinteria. When he became ill with cancer, he was unable to continue his practice. He greatly missed his patients and the enjoyable conversations he would have with them while providing them care.

Hans had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling all over the world, especially to Australia where he returned many times with his brother Dennes, son Michael and his wife Paulette. He loved his grandchildren so much. He never missed a soccer, basketball or baseball game and often took them to their practices. He attended every recital and school performance, never missing a single show. He loved helping them with their homework, playing with them and telling stories. His passing has left a great void in all our lives that will now be filled with memories.

Hans had a special place in his heart for dogs and cats, always carrying food in his car for any animal in need and adopting countless furry friends who were strays or in need of a loving home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Santa Barbara Humane Society, 5399 Overpass Road, SB 93111. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Goleta Beach near the playground on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 11:30 am.
