Richard M. Ribar, of Santa Barbara, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the age of 76.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, later moving to Phoenix where he graduated from high school in 1960. One year later, he took his first firefighting job with the Rural Metropolitan Fire Dept. in Arizona. He then moved to California and joined the Angeles National Forest “Hotshot Crew” for one season. In 1964, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served two years at Camp Roberts and in Korea as Engine Captain and Fire Inspector. On July 16, 1966, he joined the City of Santa Barbara Fire Department as a rookie firefighter. He was promoted to Captain in August 1980. He has worked at all eight fire stations in the City and has served under five Fire Chiefs.

He is survived by his wife Janine Bartley, his daughter Wendy D. Ralph (Don), Richard R. Ribar, his step-children Scott Rodriguez (Traci), Cristina Mancuso (Tony) and Ann Johnson (Jeff), 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his identical twin brother Raymond, who is also a retired fire captain. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Michael J. Ribar.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 1:00 til 4:00 pm at Tuckers Grove. (Area 4)
