Robert (Bob) LeGassick

1925 – 2020

Born in Santa Monica, Bob was the youngest of three children. At Hamilton High, where he met his future wife, Carol, he was senior class president. He enlisted in the Navy upon graduating, and served as a coxswain in WWII.

After they married in 1946, Bob and Carol moved to Santa Barbara. He became a licensed contractor, building and remodeling homes throughout Santa Barbara. Bob was a master-of-all trades and earned a reputation for his craftsmanship.

Bob was a dedicated father to Steven, Randall (deceased), and Jan: building them a 40 foot roller coaster; and a tandem bike with a third seat for Jan. With kids in tow, he led a family bike ride from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. Bob enjoyed helping his adult kids with their home improvement projects.

Bob and Carol were married for over 74 years. He enjoyed world travel with Carol and working around their cabin. He was an avid follower of current events and a life-long tinkerer. Bob never retired from work, being active up to his last days. He died November 27, 2020.

He is survived by daughter, Jan LeGassick, and her husband Richard Chaikind; son, Steven LeGassick, and his wife Jenefer; their children, Alissa and her husband Kevin; Mary, Melissa, and David; and great-grandchildren, Warren and Ashley.

If you’d like to make a donation in Bob’s name, please consider Planned Parenthood, where Carol is a long-time volunteer, or VNA Health.
