City of Death

Santa Barbara

Jeremy Maxwell Kermit was born on May 11th, 1983 into the loving home of his parents  Eben and Kathy Kermit.  Growing up in Menlo Park, California, his early youth was spent growing up alongside his brother Nathan, and sister Monika. Always an athlete, Jeremy found joy in sports and his community, with a particular knack for soccer as he grew into adolescence.

As a young adult Jeremy found himself while living in Humboldt County in Northern California and attending College of the Redwoods, where he earned his degrees and honed his craft of CNC Machining. It was here that he started to transform into the man and mensch that we all knew and loved.

Jeremy was a California connoisseur, living up and down the California coast. He found his place in Southern California after moving to Oxnard following his graduation, and working for “Uncle Gene” at HAAS Automation.  After living in Oxnard for several years, he moved 45 minutes north up the coast, realizing he spent almost all of his social time in Santa Barbara – a town he loved dearly that would become his true home.

It was in Santa Barbara where Jeremy developed a deep community, and met and fell madly in love with Taryn Bazzell, his life partner.  Taryn shares these words about Jeremy and their love:

Free as a bird and always smiling, Jeremy is a guiding light and support system to all who know him. His love is powerful and unwavering, a conduit of strength and humanity. He was a true pillar in his community, a guaranteed laugh for friends and family, a force as a partner. Jeremy’s soul and energy will not soon be forgotten, forever continued in the wheels of a speeding bicycle, the constant pounding of waves in the ocean, the sequence of sounds as a motorcycle revs and changes gears, and a love as immense and infinite as the universe. He is solidly a part of me, and the wildest, greatest love of my life.

You could always find Jeremy at the intersection of adventure and community, his essence thrived when sharing thrills – grinning from ear to ear with those he loved.  An ardent cyclist, diver, world explorer, snowboarder, cook, and expert “yes, and-er”  he knew sharing his passions as a source of pure joy and a truth in life. He fearlessly pursued every opportunity to relish in these moments with his community.

Jeremy gave freely and often. Whether giving his time to volunteer or help friends, CNC machined art of his own creation, or a camera to a burgeoning artist – he always gave with deep generosity, consideration, and appreciation – and always without expectation.

Jeremy left us on February 18th, 2022 after a three year journey fighting brain cancer. He was surrounded by those he loved, and is deeply missed. We will remember the loving, vibrant, and remarkable son, brother, and friend who made us all better for having known him.  A memorial service is set for 2pm on 2-22-22 at Goleta Cemetery 44 South San Antonio Rd, Santa Barbara CA 93110.
