David M. Ny

Date of Death

January 27, 2022

David Ny passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2022 in West Hills, CA. He was 76 years old.

Born in Oakland, he spent his formative years in Fillmore, and later in Tulare, CA where he graduated from high school as the valedictorian. He played basketball at the College of the Sequoias before transferring to UCLA, where he met his wife Anita and got his degree in mathematics.

David started his career in Los Altos, CA when personal computer technology was in its infancy. He was a VP for a couple of start-ups, and later worked at Computer Vision, and as a regional sales manager for Silicon Graphics, eventually retiring in 1994, after 25+ years in the tech field.

After retiring, David moved to New York to volunteer full time for SYDA, a not-for-profit foundation. He remained on staff for a number of years, even though he sometimes missed sunny California. He stayed in the area until his youngest daughter Kayla went off to college.

In 2006, he moved to Santa Barbara, where he enjoyed making new friends through the Unity Church, weekly swing dances, visits with his California-based cousins and connecting with old friends from the Bay Area. His favorite activities included regular hikes in the hills and walks along the ocean, as well as working out and shooting hoops at the Y. He lovingly adopted Santa Barbara as his home, where he appreciated the natural beauty of the region and often remarked to friends “can you believe that we live here?”

Positive, big-hearted and kind, David was as comfortable meditating and chanting as in a boardroom. While dedicated to pursuing his own self-growth and spiritual path, he continued helping others professionally through sales coaching and seminars, and doing consulting work for companies such as BigSpeak and NAWBO. He was smart and quick-witted and made everyone smile and laugh with his zany quips and physical comedy.

His family meant the world to him. He is survived by Anita, his children Kevin, Karissa and Kayla, his grandchildren Alicia and Shyree, his 3 great grandchildren, his sister Sandy, along with nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

We will miss his very wise counsel, his patience, and his endless ability to see a better way to do things. Smooth sailing David. We hope you have a basketball handy, to make those 3 pointers wherever you go. We love you more than ever and will miss you always.
