the Latino Elder Outreach Network (LEON) Hosting Free Grandparent Day Luncheon



SANTA BARBARA, September 1, 2015: In recognition of National Grandparents Day, the Latino Elder Outreach Network (LEON) invites members of the community who are 60+ years old to the second annual Dia De Los Abuelos (“The Day of the Grandparent” ) Luncheon. This free event with a program entirely in Spanish will take place on Thursday, September 10 from 11am to 1pm at the Carrillo Recreation Center, 100 East. Carrillo Street in Santa Barbara.

Attendees can look forward to a lively event with door prizes, lunch, and music. Dia De Los Abuelos is sponsored by a generous grant from the Santa Barbara Foundation, along with several donations from The City of Santa Barbara, The Gildea Foundation, Hospice of Santa Barbara, The County of Santa Barbara, Area Agency on Aging, Family Service Agency, Easy Lift, and The Berry Man.

LEON is a collaborative group of individuals who meet monthly to coordinate efforts on behalf of Latino elders. LEON operates under the umbrella of the Adult and Aging Network, an advisory body to the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. LEON acts as a clearinghouse for information, data gathering and best practices related to the needs of Latino elders. Their goal is to engage and empower the Latino community, and to educate the public about the needs of, and resources available to, Latino elders. Membership includes representatives from public, private and non-profit agencies.
