For twenty-four consecutive years the Eyeglass Factory has held its signature event at the Milpas St. store in Santa Barbara on the Sunday before Christmas. This year’s “Kids Day” is Dec. 17th, from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM, which is NOT the Sunday before XMAS. To be clear, the Eyeglass Factory provides free exams and glasses to kids in need, 18 years of age or under, on a year-round basis. On “Kids Day” we anticipate over 100 kids will be helped on that one day.
This year, we are also excited about partnering with the Carpinteria Unified School District for the first time. Lions Club services, there in Carpinteria, have identified 87 youngsters who clearly need vision help. The Eyeglass Factory has chartered a bus leaving Carpinteria at 8:00 AM on Sunday morning the 17th to shuttle those children and their parents to and from Kids Day in Santa Barbara.
In addition to free eye exams and glasses, the kids will be treated to:
1) Snacks and a nutritious meal courtesy of The Unified School District food services van.
2) Staff from William Sansum Diabetes Institute will be there to screen for diabetes and provide nutritional guidance for kids and parents.
3) The C.O.W.(Clinic on Wheels) will be in attendance and staffed to provide an array of services including flu shots. This is courtesy of American Indian Health and Services.
Staff will be on hand to keep the kids entertained with crafts, face paintings and a special appearance by the Real Santa Claus.
