Who: Michelle Qin (rising 12th grader at Dos Pueblos High School) is the program leader. Marina Suh (rising 11th grader at DP) and Rebekah Doctolero (rising 10th grader at DP) are program instructors. There are 31 female participants in grades 5-9. Volunteers from the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy will be providing mentorship throughout the program.
What: Coding Together is a summer program designed to teach local girls fundamental coding skills. Students will create interactive projects on MIT’s Scratch program, learn computer 3D modeling (and even get to print out 3D designs made on their computer!), engage in interactive team-building exercises geared towards computer science & engineering, explore career opportunities in STEM with local tech companies, among many other activities. At the end of the program, students will work individually or in small groups with mentors to produce innovative applications to solve social and environmental issues.
Where: Dos Pueblos High School (7266 Alameda Ave, Goleta, CA 93117), room T-10.
When: July 9 - 13, Mon-Fri, 11am - 2pm.
Why: Michelle and her team hope to empower girls in STEM by teaching fundamental levels of coding and how to apply their acquired knowledge to tackle important social & environmental issues.
How Much: $50 registration to cover snack and camp materials. Scholarships available for financial need.
