AHA! Programs for Teens

Dedicated to emotional intelligence and social conscience in teens ages 14-19, AHA! programs include creative expression, leadership training, emotional support, sexual wisdom, and community service. By donation, thanks to the Santa Barbara and Orfalea Foundations, among others.

American Red Cross Babysitter Training: Ages 11-15

This program is designed to provide young adolescents with information on leadership, professionalism, basic care, safety, safe play, and first aid that can help make them safe, responsible babysitters. The course includes hands-on practice, small group interactive learning, and role playing, and games all taught by trained instructors. A more intensive babysitter “Supercamp” is also available, offering more intensive first aid training and American Red Cross CPR certification.

Three sessions for standard babysitter training: Sat., Sept. 26, 9am-3:30pm; Wed.-Thu., Oct. 14-15, 4-7pm; or Wed., Nov. 11, 9am-3:30pm. Supercamp training: Mon.-Tue., Dec. 21-22, 9am-3:30pm. S.B. Teen Leaders Club

Do you still need to earn community service hours for graduation? Do you want meet new friends while having fun getting this requirement completed? The Teen Leaders Club is a volunteer group that allows local teens the opportunity to earn service hours while helping their community. The club is designed to teach members responsible decision-making and team-building skills while encouraging personal growth and positive development. Teens create their own community service projects, service learning, and fundraisers.

Twelve35 Teen Center

Drop in and check out S.B.’s teens-only facility, located in downtown Santa Barbara. Twelve35 is the only place teens have access to Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, a full DDR system, the Internet and free wi-fi, air hockey, a pool table, foosball, a snack bar : and to top it all off-a recording studio-all under one roof! Weekly activities, classes, special events, homework help, and community service opportunities are offered throughout the year.
