Blind Mountain (Mang shan)
Rating: NR
Synopsis:
Set in Northern China in the early 1990s, BLIND MOUNTAIN is about an antiquated tradition that lingers in rural China. Bai Xeumei is a recent university graduate who sets out with a fellow student to make money selling medical supplies to the people of isolated villages. After being drugged, Xeumei awakes to find her companions have taken her ID and sold her to a man named Degui to be his wife. Angry and frightened, she demands to be set free, but Deguis parents inform her that she has been purchased and cannot leave. Xeumei finds solace and companionship in the local teacher, Huang Decheng. BLIND MOUNTAIN reveals that oppressive traditions are not a thing of the past, but an issue that persists.
