Disfigured
Rating: NR
Synopsis:
DISFIGURED opens at a meeting of the Fat Acceptance Group, an activist organization for overweight people trying to accept their bodies and change societys negative perception of them. The members discuss the shame and self-loathing they often feel, issues around their sexuality, and the hostility they encounter. One member, Lydia, feels confusion about her appearance--she alternates between strong desires to change it and accept it. At one of the gatherings she meets Darcy, an anorexic who is also searching for self-acceptance. The two embark on a tentative friendship founded on battles with their bodies and very different attitudes about food. DISFIGURED examines complex and painful issues around weight and body image with honesty and unswerving focus.
