US PREMIERE
George, a charismatic and adventurous young woman in her teens, falls in love with a female teacher named Sybil. Devastated by her lover’s eventual suicide, a few years later George embarks on an exciting and reckless journey to the depths of Pigalle’s nightlife, circa 1960. George has an encounter with a very wealthy, attractive, and older woman, who offers George money and gifts in return for sexual favors. George becomes Gigola, a kind of gigolo for women. Almodovar’s muse and Spain’s star actress, Marisa Paredes and Spanish actor Eduardo Noriega give wonderful performances, but Lou Doillon’s iconic portrayal of George in male drag waving her cane in the decadent street of Pigalle deserves applause most of all. Directed by Laure Charpentier, the film is based on her novel which was censored when it was released in 1972 and eventually published in 2002. - Adapted from Rhee Soue-wan, Pusan International Film Festival
