WHY MUSIC MOVES:

Thu Apr 06, 2006 | 12:00pm

Music touches us all. How it moves us, both individually and in
a social context, will be the forum of the Music as Media Focus
Group in UCSB’s IHC Seminar Room on April 7 and 28. UCSB
communication prof Howie Giles and psych prof Dave Hamilton will
discuss how to bridge “gaps” between the disciplines of humanities,
communication, and psychology regarding music and its effects on
us. Research exists in all three fields, but is peripheral in terms
of how the medium of music affects the ties between these sciences.
The forum will discuss individuals’ experience with music during
their processing of social events, and, in turn, how social events
affect our interpretation of music. Hear that, Bob Dylan? It goes
down Friday, April 7, noon in 6056 HSSB on the UCSB campus and
again April 28, at the same place and time.
