MISPLACED HATE?

Arnold Trejo was arrested last week outside of the Press Room
Bar on Cota Street for a curious combination of drunk driving and
misdemeanor hate crime. Moments after walking out of the bar at
about 2 a.m. on Wednesday night, the 48-year-old Trejo returned in
his truck and started yelling profanities at a group gathered
outside, screaming that he “hated the Irish” and pelting the
awestruck onlookers with a barrage of low-grade fireworks. His
weapons quickly escalated to a flaming sparkler and a 15-inch,
military-style knife that Trejo flung harmlessly – and seemingly
inexplicably – at a woman nearby. The madness occurred directly
across the street from the Irish pub Dargan’s, with its conspicuous
six-foot leprechaun. Trejo was apprehended by authorities before he
could cause any real harm.
