Rapper and drummer April King and spoken word artist Danae Davis
performed at UCSB on Tuesday as part of the touring Right to Resist
campaign, which rallies students to counter military recruitment on
campuses. “We have the power to stop blood from spilling with our
purchases,” chanted King. “So invest in what nurtures instead of
what’s hurting us.” Nico Amado — a UCSB grad and Right to Resist
co-founder — said the group aims to use creativity and art to
promulgate social change. Earlier on Tuesday, Right to Resist
conducted a workshop for a Dos Pueblos High School class. They
compared financial inducements offered by the military to civilian
opportunities such as college financial aid. — Martha
