Two grants, totaling more than $1.5 million, were awarded to the
Santa Barbara County Land Trust last week for the recovery of the
endangered steelhead trout and other native species. One $903,000
grant will be used to improve the native wetlands in the western
part of the Goleta Slough, including removing obstacles from fish
migration paths. The second grant, provided by the California
Coastal Conservancy, earmarks $650,000 to help ease the passage of
native steelhead trout traveling through the Arroyo Hondo Creek,
which runs under Highway 101.
