A Civil Union

As a result, the Teamsters Union today filed a new complaint
with the National Labor
Relations Board
, claiming that cancellation of Starshine
Roshell’s popular weekly column was an act of retaliation for her
union activities

In a message to the NLRB, Teamster attorney Ira Gottlieb said,
” Under the patently spurious pretext of responding to accusations
of ‘bias’ in the newsroom, the paper [the Santa Barbara
News-Press
] has cancelled a column offering Roshell’s
commentary appearing weekly in the Life section of the publication.
The paper has done nothing, however, to rebuild the wall that it
has been accused of demolishing between its editorial stance and
actual reporting of the news.” The cancellation was also intended
“to threaten and deter all other union supporters and potential
supporters, again sending and reinforcing the message that they
will face retaliation and punishment for their continued union
support.”
