Surfer Peeps

Another day, another soiree.

Last night found me at the Arlington, yet again (I’m beginning to think I should have my mail forwarded), this time for the worldpremiere of Forgotten Coast, a travelogue-esque surf flick that centers around a harrowing search for Indonesia’s most perfect, most untouched waves.

Though the surf footage was phenomenal, I think all who saw it will agree that what made the movie were the gratuitous close-ups of Brandon Tippleton’s wildly infected toe. Good times. Post-movie, my date and I collected her car, waiting for us in the legendary parking spot we’d scored the night before—unfortunately, now adorned with a bright green parking ticket—and made our way to Longboards Grill for the after party.

Upon arriving, I stuffed her pockets with peanuts and set out to do some peeping. We chatted with To The Maxx series organizer Russ Spencer and the dudes from the movie, including aussie surfer Daniel Thomson. The latter broke two vertebrae during filming and only recently emerged from traction — this despite the fact that the movie’s final scene has him heading off into the sunset, wearing a backpack — and got sucked into a long-lasting dance session from which, happily, there was no escape. And when web finally called it a night, we left nothing but a trail of peanut shells in our wake.
