Small 2.7-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes SB Channel

No Reports of Damage, Notice by Residents

Perhaps you were walking back from lunch break or enjoying the decidedly un-gloomy late days of June on the beach. Either way, if you fell over or dropped a glass or just before 1:30 p.m. yesterday you have an excuse-though not a very good one. At exactly 1:21 p.m., a mild earthquake rumbled up from the southern depths of the Santa Barbara Channel. According to the folks at the USGS, the temblor measured a 2.7 on the Richter scale with its epicenter just a few miles off shore from Santa Cruz Island’s Scorpion Anchorage.

There has been no reported damage from the quake nor any real reports of people on the mainland actually feeling it.
