A hit and run near the Los Carneros exit of Highway 101 in Goleta early Tuesday morning killed Miguel Cabrera, a 23-year-old truck driver from Lompoc. According to witnesses, Cabrera was standing outside his truck, which he had pulled over to the side of the road, possibly to investigate engine trouble, when a vehicle driven by Andrew Swanson struck him. Though treated at the hospital, Cabrera died. Swanson allegedly fled the scene, but police found and arrested him both for felony hit and run and for driving under the influence. Swanson’s passenger was also arrested, for providing false information to the officers.
The matter is still under investigation.
