With the passage of the Isla Vista Master Plan last week, Santa Barbara County officials believe they have met the state’s housing mandate and have sent a letter to the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) asking for final certification. As a result of rezoning included in the plan, 1,447 additional housing units can be built in the already densely populated Isla Vista area.
The Santa Barbara Dance Alliance is helping talented young dancers follow their dreams with a scholarship that awards up to six months of tuition and $750. Applicants must have two years of experience, demonstrate financial need, and be recommended by their teacher or studio. Tonight, Thursday, September 6, the Frameworks/Caruso-Woods Gallery will reopen its doors. Closed since the original De la Guerra Street location sustained serious damage in an early-morning fire on April 18, the gallery has found a new home at the El Paseo complex on Anacapa Street. Caruso-Woods will reopen with a grouping of abstract monotypes and oil paintings by Oaxaca-based artist Ra°l Soruco, who will be on hand for the opening reception.
