Winter Leaves and a Solitary White Mushroom on the Big Sur Riverbank.

Often in Big Sur my gaze is upwards and outwards – and I forget to look down. But in the winter, especially when the rain has softened them, the leaves provide beautiful patterns, multi-colored in a range of earth tones. This day a solitary white mushroom has poked its head up through the sycamore leaves, providing an even more captivating photo.

In honor of what I love so much about Big Sur, and what the Basin Fire is blackening, over the next few weeks Photos of the Day will provide snapshots of the Big Sur coast.
