NEWSIE SUZIE: Readers may recognize Suzanne Heibel’s byline. This graduate of UCSB’s environmental studies program and current Indy intern has been quickly learning the ropes to reporting on all manner of Santa Barbara news, most recently with last week’s bio on Tea Fire victims Lance and Carla Hoffman. Heibel grew up near San Diego in La Mesa and near Redding in Shingletown. “I take no sides in the NorCal-SoCal war,” she joked. A self-described gypsy who has either studied or volunteered in Costa Rica, China, Thailand, Bolivia, and Chile, Heibel may also be familiar to some Santa Barbara residents from her longtime stint at the Fairview Avenue Starbucks or weekend work at Marylinn’s, the State Street couture bridal shop. When not biking or baking, Heibel’s adding to her list of Santa Barbara Independent news stories, which you can view at independent.com/suzanneheibel.
