Vandenberg Gets into the Holiday Spirit

Operation Kids' Christmas Helps Out Area Youth

Thu Dec 04, 2008 | 06:00am

With the holidays fast approaching, the 381st Training Group at Vandenberg Air Force Base is focusing upon the needs of others. On December 6, they will be hosting 200 of the area’s underprivileged children at the base’s Pacific Coast Club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dubbed Operation Kids’ Christmas, the event has been held for the past 45 years on the base, and will feature food, rides in some of the base’s fire trucks, clowns, a magician, and even Santa Claus. At a cost of approximately $25,000, all fundraising – which is entirely donation-based – and planning for the event was conducted by the training group, commanded by Colonel Renee Renner. Colonel David Buck, 30th Space Wing commander, will co-host the event with Renner.
