The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department responded to multiple calls of several gunshots at the Goleta Motel 6 early Thursday morning, only to find no evidence of gunshots in the area.

Authorities from the Sheriff’s Department, along with UC and City of Goleta Police, responded just after 4:30 a.m. to the Motel 6 and evacuated 20 occupied rooms at the motel. Calle Real was closed between the Calle Real Center and Fairview Avenue for nearly three hours. After the area was secured, the SWAT team entered a second floor room. Inside they found no evidence that a shooting took place in the room, but did find drug paraphernalia.

On the motel’s property outside, authorities detained two people unrelated to the call, and arrested a man for possession of a substance and detained a woman for being under the influence.

Traffic resumed at 7:30 a.m. and the scene was cleared by 8 a.m.
