Ladder Climbing Causes Another Oil Spill for Beleaguered Energy Company

Santa Barbara County Fire crews responded to an oil spill at a Greka Energy facility in Santa Maria this morning. According to County Fire spokesperson David Sadecki, the incident at 1505 Black Road resulted in the estimated leakage of 84 gallons of crude and some 420 gallons of produced water. The mishap occurred when a Greka employee was climbing a ladder attached to a 30,000 gallon holding tank and the ladder broke free, creating holes in the side of the tank. The spill was successfully contained by Greka employees.
