If you think you’re having a bad hair day, other people across the nation are having worse ones, according to a study conducted by Totalbeauty.com .

Santa Barbara ranked at the top of the beauty Web site’s list of the 11 best-hair cities in the U.S. Despite locals’ complaints about temperamental winds, misty ocean dew, and serving as possible seagull targets, Santa Barbara city residents have it easier than most, if not all, according to the survey.

Although it cited Santa Barbara’s young population as a factor in landing the coveted spot, TotalBeauty.com also determined the city standings based on scientific analyses. The Santa Monica-based Web site reviewed each city’s annual humidity levels, rainfall, water hardness, pollution, and wind speeds. Demographics and the number of beauty salons per capita were also taken into consideration.

Still convinced that Santa Barbara is more eco-friendly than hairdo-friendly? Totalbeauty.com justifies the win with this argument: “It has it all: clean air, near-constant weather, a young population, and not much rain or wind.”

“That is so interesting [because] we have the hardest water!” said Cheri Swank, owner of Cheri Bibi salon, located on West Valerio and State. The Indy approached an astonished but excited Swank to ask if she believed Santa Barbara was worthy of the title. “I think it’s silly when people drive down to L.A. to get their hair done because we really do have some of the best hair stylists and hair salons.”

Other cities with good hair include Honolulu, San Diego, Anchorage, and New York. The Web site classified Corpus Christi, Texas, as the city likely to do the most damage to your ‘do, followed by Olympia, Pittsburg, and Las Vegas.
