The Gap Fire was a disaster; the hydrotrashing of our foothills is a catastrophe. Dropping recycled trash on our foothills flies in the face of all our antilitter laws. Simply saying, “Oops, we’re sorry some contaminants got into the mix,” does not cut it. Whereas the fire area would recover on its own within a few years, the hydromulching will be present for decades. The trash mix is literally stuck to rocks and the brush. This was done with no public input and with no environmental review. Our foothill environment is too fragile to be treated so recklessly. The same Arizona company would like to drop more hydrotrash on the Tea and Jesusita fire areas, and with a $5-million price tag-who wouldn’t? Since it seems unlikely any litigation will occur, the public deserves a refund. – Keith Zandona
